The Communities We Serve Media Caravan

This is a youth and young women led filming initiative that focuses on traversing across the vulnerable rural communities we have mapped out to restore, regenerate and flourish economically, socially and ecologically. Our youthful crew of media and environmental professionals visit various sites and rural communities to learn, photograph, videograph, and showcase the hidden gems and stories on critical place-based landscape degradation, and ongoing effective community-led restoration projects.

With the mission to bring to light the status of place-based landscape degradation and ongoing conservation and restoration efforts for sustainable shared-visioning and on-the-ground actioning, we aim to inspire local communities and stakeholders to increase their respective restoration actions while disseminating good practices.

We aim to give junior professionals and university student finalists the opportunity to have hands-on filming and restoration experiences as a headstart in their journalism and environmental sustainability careers. The project provides these young professionals with all the resources they need ( food, transport, cameras, and monthly stipend) to ensure they thrive in their early careers.

The initiative has five specific objectives:

  • (i) Showcase: To showcase the status of landscape degradation and community-led solutions to halt, protect and prevent further forest and landscape degradation for enhanced environmental, social and economic outcomes.
  • (ii) Educate: To educate indigenous communities and the general public about conservative principles that can improve their specific ecosystems, boost agricultural production, and enhance livelihoods.
  • (iii) Learn: To learn the common harmful practices that are causing ecosystem degradation in Western Kenya and to develop effective solutions.
  • (iv) Replicate: To implement precision-focused, internationally recognized ecosystem restoration practices to significantly enhance local ecosystems.
  • (v) Identify: To identify gaps, areas of improvement, and methods to enhance ecosystem restoration nationwide for future projects.
